Unit Operations Laboratory

• In each of the following process units:

  Flow, Level, & Temp. Control (A)
  Packed Column Liquid-Liquid Extractor (B)
  Fixed-Bed Catalyst Reactor (C)
  Deionized and Distilled Water (D)
  Packed Tower Vacuum Distillation (E)
  Waste Water Treatment (F)

  • Identify equipment, piping, and instrumentation on P&IDs and in the field
  • Lining-up valves
  • Starting & stopping pumps
  • Transferring material
  • Locking and tagging out equipment
  • Perform housekeeping tasks
  • Explain the function of the equipment used
  • Explain the function of the processes used
  • Start up and shut down process systems
  • At steady state, adjust process operating conditions safely, smoothly, and efficiently
  • At steady state, collect and analyze process data
  • Detect and troubleshoot operation problems and correct or operate in a safe mode outside SOPs
  • Communicate with team members using remote communication devices in order to startup, shutdown, and operate process units
  • Serve as team leader, being responsible for writing up the group lab report with input and agreement of all team members
