Professional Order of Engineering Technology
Induction Ceremony

In 1993, as the American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) celebrated its centennial, that society’s Engineering Technology Council formed a committee to explore the formation of a professional order for ET graduates. On May 11, 1993 the first induction ceremony for the Professional Order of Engineering Technology (POET) was held at Wayne State University, in Detroit, Michigan. As of 2008, there were 6 chapters of POET in 6 states, with our chapter the first in the State of Louisiana.

POET was formed with the idea of bestowing a distinct identity to engineering technology professionals, and to recognize the graduation of students and their transition into an engineering technology career.

The first induction ceremony was held at McNeese State University on May 16, 2008. One or two POET induction ceremonies are held per year (December and May) for engineering technology graduates.

More information about POET can found at www.et.eng.wayne.edu/poet
