McNeese State University police have arrested two suspects in connection with an alleged rape that occurred on the McNeese campus.
According to McNeese Police Chief Cinnamon Salvador, McNeese police received a call at approximately 6 a.m. Friday that a rape had occurred in a residence hall. McNeese police, Salvador and Dr. Toby Osburn, McNeese dean of student services, responded to the call.
Salvador, Osburn and relatives of the young woman accompanied her to a local hospital where she was treated and released.
“Within three hours we had identified and interviewed two of the three suspects,” Salvador said. “Based on their statements about the alleged incident, they were arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.” McNeese police are following information and leads on a third suspect. According to Osburn only one of the suspects is a McNeese student.
“These young men were invited guests in a suite in the residence hall,”
Osburn said. There was no forced entry into the suite or the private room
where the alleged incident occurred.
“The fact that guests of the opposite sex were present in the room after visiting hours had ended is a violation of the resident housing policy,” Osburn said.
According to Osburn, the victim lives in a different suite in the same residence hall and was visiting in the same suite as the suspects. |
