  McNeese Homecoming Court

The 2009 McNeese State University Homecoming Kings and Queens from left: Darnell Pledger, of Houma, Morgan Verrette, of Lake Charles, Kaitlynn Ackoury, of Moss Bluff, and Travis Lavergne, of Grand Lake.

McNeese Cowboy fans will be seeing double at the 2009 Homecoming Court halftime presentation during the McNeese vs. Northwestern State football game at 7 p.m. this Saturday, Oct. 17, in Cowboy Stadium.

There are two queens and two kings—a first for McNeese State University--thanks to the Student Government Association’s homecoming election rules for a tie vote.

Kaitlynn Ackoury, a history senior from Moss Bluff, and Morgan Verrette, a chemical engineering senior from Lake Charles, will reign as McNeese’s 2009 Homecoming Queens, while Travis Lavergne, a criminal justice senior from Grand Lake, and Darnell Pledger, a graduate student in instructional technology from Houma, have both been named McNeese’s Homecoming Kings.

According to SGA Vice President Inthira Pandey, there was a tie vote for Homecoming queen. SGA election rules allow the SGA Senate to accept the tie vote, flip a coin or have a runoff. The Senate accepted both the queen candidates. However, election rules also state that every queen must have a king and vice versa so the male candidate with the second highest vote count became the second king.

Other court members to be presented during halftime ceremonies are: Laura Dunnick, Lake Charles, and Jonathan Rutherford, Grand Chenier, seniors and graduate students; Chance Arceneaux, Moss Bluff, Kristin Fry, Houma, Deil LaLande, Creole, and Claire Poche, Metairie, juniors; Austin Bourgeois, Sulphur, and Erin Moore, Westlake, sophomores; and Jayce Michael Hebert, Grand Lake, and Kelley Verrette, Lake Charles, freshmen.
