McNeese Information Technology is preparing to
replace the current e-mail system. The existing
system has been in use for nearly six years and
there have been many technological changes during
that time. Previously, in most cases all student
and employee accounts on the mail system had the
naming convention of two letters and four numbers.
The new mail system naming convention will be
first initial and last name with a number added in
case of duplicates and up to 15 characters. In
many cases, the user ID will remain the same for
employees.
However, some employees will have new IDs which
are more consistent to the new naming convention.
We will keep your old ID as an alias so any mail
coming to that old address will still be
delivered. For example, John Fontenot might have
been jfonteno@ on the old system, but the new mail
system has the account listed as jfontenot@. Email
still coming to the jfonteno@ address will be
delivered to the jfontenot@ account. Also for
current employees, the old McNeese email system
will have the account content migrated to the new
mail system.
It is McNeese practice that only current employees
and students have McNeese e-mail accounts.
*** If you are not currently employed by McNeese,
your mcneese.edu address will only be available to
you until July 31st. Please make the necessary
arrangements to establish some other e-mail
account and move any messages you wish to save out
of your mcneese.edu account. ***
If you have any questions or comments about this
change, please send an e-mail to:
new-e-mail@mcneese.edu.
