Student
Services
The WTE
Center offers many services for students. Some include the
following:
Individual tutoring. Sessions last for 30 minutes.
Students may make appointments or drop in. Students with
appointments are served at the time of their appointment.
Drop-ins may experience a short wait.
Group
tutoring. Students working in groups on a common assignment
may schedule a one-hour group session. Group sessions should
make appointments. No drop-in service is available for group
sessions.
Students
are invited to attend Fridays at the Center to
participate in student and faculty discussions of their research
and writing.
The WTEC
sponsors an annual Write to Excellence Essay Contest in
the Spring of each year. Winners are selected from each
college, and an overall university winner is selected. Cash
awards are made on Quality Day. All undergraduate students are
invited to participate.
The WTEC
and the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities
co-sponsor an essay contest for students served by that office.
Topics are posted in March and essays are due at the end of
April. Cash awards for best three essays on “overcoming
disabilities.”
Undergraduate and junior and senior high school students are
invited to join the student organization, So, You Like to
Write! Focusing on creative writing, members meet twice
monthly, hold writing retreats during the fall and spring
semesters, and attend field trips and conferences related to
writing.
