McNeese and SOWELA Sign New Articulation Agreements for Four Programs

McNeese and SOWELA Technical Community College have signed articulation agreements for four programs, making it easier for students to transfer credits from SOWELA to McNeese. SOWELA students who complete 60 hours and graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in criminal justice, an Associate of General Studies degree in English literature, an Associate of General Studies degree in history or an Associate of General Studies degree in mass communications can transfer into the corresponding bachelor’s degree programs at McNeese.

“McNeese and SOWELA share a common interest in providing access to quality higher education in southwest Louisiana,” McNeese President Dr. Daryl V. Burckel said. “This partnership with SOWELA streamlines the transfer process and creates a clear pathway for SOWELA students to earn four-year degrees from McNeese.” 

Students who transfer the maximum number of credit hours from SOWELA to McNeese will have 60 credit hours left to earn their bachelor’s degree and all students who transfer from SOWELA under the agreement will enter McNeese as juniors.

“It is a pleasure to partner with SOWELA in creating access for students in our region to obtain a four-year degree.  We look forward to developing more articulation agreements in high demand programs,” said Dr. Frederick LeMieux, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs and enrollment management.

McNeese and SOWELA also have articulation agreements for programs in art, business administration, psychology and nursing.

SOWELA Chancellor Dr. Neil Aspinwall said “Although the majority of our students enter the workforce after completing a program of study, a growing number of our students (400-500 per year) transfer to a four-year college or university to continue their education. The majority of our transfer students choose McNeese as their institution of choice.”
